Xcode can't debug C++ program when configured to use Terminal instead of console
Starting with Xcode 27, my attempt to start a debug session for my C++ project fails. The Run scheme used has the Console setting configured for "Terminal" fails. The Terminal opens, but there appears to be a failure in the execution of the 'darwin-debug' command in the shell spawned for the debug session: Here's the output in the Terminal: Last login: Sat Sep 19 13:46:54 on ttys001 /bin/bash -c 'arch -arch arm64 "/Volumes/MyPassport/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/SharedFrameworks/LLDB.framework/Resources/darwin-debug" --unix-socket=/tmp/7RBHab --arch=arm64 --working-dir "/Volumes/MyPassport/paulrockwell/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/GNU_APL-gulwhsgobkphkodqgsftvqohegyk/Build/Products/Debug" --disable-aslr --env="OS_ACTIVITY_TOOLS_PRIVACY=YES" --env="OS_LOG_DT_HOOK_PREFIX=OSLOG-E37B26CB-6471-4B1C-ACB7-48236B4EC921" --env="TERM=dumb" --env="SHELL=/bin/zsh" --env="MTL_DEBUG_LAYER_VALIDATE_STORE_ACTIONS=0" --env="DYLD_FRAMEWORK_PATH=/Volumes/MyPassport/paulrockwell/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/GNU_APL-gulwhsgobkphkodqgsftvqohegyk/Build/Products/Debug" --env="SWIFT_BACKTRACE=enable=no" --env="CA_ASSERT_MAIN_THREAD_TRANSACTIONS=0" --env="CFLOG_FORCE_DISABLE_STDERR=1" --env="__XCODE_BUILT_PRODUCTS_DIR_PATHS=/Volumes/MyPassport/paulrockwell/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/GNU_APL-gulwhsgobkphkodqgsftvqohegyk/Build/Products/Debug" --env="IDE_DISABLED_OS_ACTIVITY_DT_MODE=1" --en% paulrockwell@Upstairs ~ % /bin/bash -c 'arch -arch arm64 "/Volumes/MyPassport/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/SharedFrameworks/LLDB.framework/Resources/darwin-debug" --unix-socket=/tmp/7RBHab --arch=arm64 --working-dir "/Volumes/MyPassport/paulrockwell/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/GNU_APL-gulwhsgobkphkodqgsftvqohegyk/Build/Products/Debug" --disable-aslr --env="OS_ACTIVITY_TOOLS_PRIVACY=YES" --env="OS_LOG_DT_HOOK_PREFIX=OSLOG-E37B26CB-6471-4B1C-ACB7-48236B4EC921" --env="TERM=dumb" --env="SHELL=/bin/zsh" --env="MTL_DEBUG_LAYER_VALIDATE_STORE_ACTIONS=0" --env="DYLD_FRAMEWORK_PATH=/Volumes/MyPassport/paulrockwell/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/GNU_APL-gulwhsgobkphkodqgsftvqohegyk/Build/Products/Debug" --env="SWIFT_BACKTRACE=enable=no" --env="CA_ASSERT_MAIN_THREAD_TRANSACTIONS=0" --env="CFLOG_FORCE_DISABLE_STDERR=1" --env="__XCODE_BUILT_PRODUCTS_DIR_PATHS=/Volumes/MyPassport/paulrockwell/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData/GNU_APL-gulwhsgobkphkodqgsftvqohegyk/Build/Products/Debug" --env="IDE_DISABLED_OS_ACTIVITY_DT_MODE=1" --en There appears to be a missing single quote in the command line, but if I complete it, darwin-debug fails to start with the following error message: darwin-debug: option `--en' requires an argument This worked on Xcode 26. Title: iPhone Duo Simulator - Fold/Unfold posture controls completely missing?
I'm trying to test on the new iPhone Duo simulator (Xcode 27.1 beta), but I cannot find a way to unfold the device anywhere in the Device Hub. The floating posture widget that is supposed to appear at the bottom center of the window simply isn't rendering for me. I thought it might just be hidden, but I've combed through the entire macOS menu bar (Device, Controls, View, etc.) and the options to change the fold state are completely absent from the dropdowns as well. Has anyone else run into this UI bug? Is there a hidden setting to toggle the posture controls back on, or a keyboard shortcut to force the simulator into its flat full-screen state in the meantime? Any help is appreciated!

Xcode cannot mount DDI on physical device — "No provider was found" (CoreDeviceError 1002) — /Library/Developer/DeveloperDiskImages never created
I have been struggling with this for a while and have gone through every solution I have found on the forums, so I am hoping someone at Apple or in the community can shed some light on the actual root cause. Setup Mac: macOS 26.7 (Build 25G229) Xcode: 26.2 (Build 17C52) — also tried 16.8 and 26.0, same result Device: iPhone SE (3rd generation), iPhone14,6 — iOS 26.7 (Build 23H24) Developer Mode: enabled on device Pairing state: paired, tunnel connected The error When I connect my iPhone via cable, Xcode initiates pairing and device preparation, then immediately fails with: The developer disk image could not be mounted on this device. Domain: com.apple.dt.CoreDeviceError Code: 12040 Failure Reason: Unable to find a valid DDI for the iOS platform. Run 'devicectl list preferredDDI' from the command line to get more details. User Info: { DVTErrorCreationDateKey = "2026-09-22 17:14:25 +0000"; DeviceIdentifier = "3B75FE83-5833-53B2-8ABE-9AA65A22A1C8"; "com.apple.dt.DVTCoreDevice.operationName" = enablePersonalizedDDI; } Underlying errors: Code 12001 — Unable to find a valid DDI for the iOS platform. Code 12007 — Unable to find a developer disk image to use for the iOS platform (variants: Internal, Public). Diagnosing: no DDIs found for any platform Running the suggested command: xcrun devicectl list preferredDDI Output: Failed to load provisioning parameter list due to error: Error Domain=com.apple.dt.CoreDeviceError Code=1002 "No provider was found." UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=No provider was found.} Host CoreDevice version: 518.27 WARNING: No DDI was found for the iOS platform. No DDI was found for the macOS platform. No DDI was found for the tvOS platform. No DDI was found for the watchOS platform. No DDI was found for the visionOS platform. The key signal here is Code=1002 "No provider was found." — this same error appears as a prefix in every devicectl command I run, regardless of the subcommand. I suspect this is the actual root cause, not a secondary issue. Additionally, /Library/Developer/DeveloperDiskImages does not exist on this machine. What I have already tried xcrun devicectl manage ddis update Updating host DDIs at /Library/Developer/DeveloperDiskImages The following directories provided candidate DDIs: /Library/Developer/CoreDevice/CandidateDDIs /Applications/Xcode-26.2.0.app/Contents/Resources/CoreDeviceDDIs After cleaning and updating the installed host DDIs in /Library/Developer/DeveloperDiskImages are equivalent to the original set. The command completes without error, but /Library/Developer/DeveloperDiskImages is still never created. Reinstalling Xcode system resources: sudo installer -target / -pkg $(xcode-select -p)/../Resources/Packages/XcodeSystemResources.pkg No change. Multiple Xcode versions — tested with 16.8 and 26.0 in addition to the current 26.2. Same failure across all. Multiple iOS versions on the device — the iPhone has been factory reset several times and tested on different iOS 26.x builds as Apple released them. Issue persists on all versions. Confirmed xcode-select -p points to the active Xcode installation and xcrun resolves tools correctly. Device info (for reference) xcrun devicectl list devices Name Identifier State Model iPhone de Carlos 3B75FE83-5833-53B2-8ABE-9AA65A22A1C8 connected (no DDI) iPhone SE (3rd generation) The device pairs and tunnels fine. The only blocker is DDI services (ddiServicesAvailable: false). Questions What does Code=1002 "No provider was found." actually mean in the context of devicectl? Is there a provisioning service or entitlement missing on the Mac side? Why does devicectl manage ddis update report success but never create /Library/Developer/DeveloperDiskImages? Is there a prerequisite directory or permission that needs to exist first? Is there a way to manually force-install the DDIs from the Xcode bundle, bypassing the update mechanism? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Happy to run additional diagnostics if needed.

Broken autocomplete in Xcode 26
Xcode 16 and 26 changes in painful way how the Tab key works during autocomplete. Previously, pressing Tab would extend the typed text up to the word match. For example, we have two classes: NSViewController and NSViewCoordinator BEFORE, typing: "NSV" + Tab used to complete to NSViewCo Now, in Xcode 26, pressing Tab just use the first suggestion. Stupidly. Especially when you want DispatchQueue and it gaves you DispatchSemaphore… That is very inconvenient because very often I want just see all possible cases with some prefix...without need of typing all prefix manually. How to restore the previous behavior? How to do autocomplete word-by-word?

App built with Xcode 27 crashes at launch on iOS 16: missing Swift _ArrayBuffer._getElementSlowPath symbol
After building our app with Xcode 27.0 (27A266a), we observed that it crashes immediately at launch on devices running iOS versions below 17. Devices running iOS 17 or later appear unaffected by this issue. The previous release, built with Xcode 26, worked on older iOS devices. Deleting and reinstalling the affected app does not resolve the crash. Build settings: Minimum deployment target: iOS 15.0 Swift language mode: Swift 5 Configuration: Release Two crash reports from iOS 16.3.1, covering separate app builds produced with Xcode 27, show the same error: Exception Type: EXC_CRASH (SIGABRT) Termination Reason: Namespace DYLD, Code 4, Symbol missing Symbol not found: _$ss12_ArrayBufferV19_getElementSlowPathyyXlSiFyXl_Ts5 Referenced from: Topi.app/Topi Expected in: /usr/lib/swift/libswiftCore.dylib (terminated at launch; ignore backtrace) The symbol demangles to: generic pre-specialization <Swift.AnyObject> of Swift._ArrayBuffer._getElementSlowPath(Swift.Int) -> Swift.AnyObject The system launch screen appears, then dyld terminates the process before application startup code executes. We have not yet isolated whether the reference comes from compiler-generated application code or a linked dependency, nor completed a same-source comparison between Xcode 26 and 27. Is this a known Swift runtime compatibility issue with Xcode 27 when targeting iOS below 17? Is there a supported fix or workaround that preserves iOS 15 and 16 support?

Suggestion for search in Xcode
Hi, I have two points regarding the search function. In other applications I use, it’s possible to highlight a word and then press CMD-F to have that word automatically populated into the search field. This doesn't work in Xcode, and it’s really annoying. Secondly, it bothers me that the two search fields—the one in the sidebar and the one above the editor window—are linked; specifically, when I clear one, the other disappears as well. They serve two different purposes and should remain separate. Christian

Xcode 27, defaults to iOS 27 build
In process of creating an iOS app and installed Xcode 27, now when I add a simulator in the Device Hub the iOS version needs to be 27 or I get an incompatible version error. Also when I select the top app icon the tabs such as the build settings is not showing, only the non-modifiable text file. I'm sure the fix for both is simple but I need pointed in the right direction.

Runaway DeviceHub/diskimagesiod CPU Usage (100%) and Broken Keyboard Shortcuts in Xcode 27 on macOS 27 (M1, 8GB RAM)
Hello everyone, I am experiencing a severe, workflow-breaking issue with the new Device Hub implementation in the latest stable release of Xcode 27 running on macOS 27. My development machine is an M1 MacBook Pro with 8GB RAM and a 512GB SSD.The simulator has become completely unusable, forcing a massive degradation in my development workflow. The Problem:100% CPU Consumption: When launching a simulator (iOS 27.0), the system instantly spikes to maximum processor usage. While DeviceHub.app spawns the window, the background processes diskimagesiod and CoreDeviceService relentlessly consume between 50% to 95% CPU each, even when the simulator is completely idle.Total Input Lockout / Broken Shortcuts: Absolutely no keyboard shortcuts pass through to the simulator window (e.g., standard development hooks or navigation). The simulator completely stops responding to touch inputs or hardware button clicks, getting stuck in a rigid runtime loop.Immediate Relief Upon Killing Process: The moment I manually force-terminate devicehub via Activity Monitor or Terminal, my overall system load instantly drops back down to a peaceful 2.48% CPU with ~94% idle.Underlying Error Logs:When launching the binary directly from the terminal via /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Applications/DeviceHub.app/Contents/MacOS/DeviceHub --booted, the console outputs a massive stream of critical class duplication conflicts between the native OS and private developer frameworks objc[4489]: Class ..._TTC12UniversalHID26TouchSensitiveButtonFilter is implemented in both /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/UniversalHID.framework/Versions/A/UniversalHID (0x2ec5a4c8d) and /Library/Developer/PrivateFrameworks/CoreDevice.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/UniversalHID.framework/Versions/A/UniversalHID (0x105025580). One of the duplicates must be removed or renamed. objc[4489]: Class ..._TTC12UniversalHID15DigitizerFilter is implemented in both /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/UniversalHID.framework/Versions/A/UniversalHID and /Library/Developer/PrivateFrameworks/CoreDevice.framework/... One of the duplicates must be removed or renamed. Impact:Because these private frameworks are deadlocking over registering duplicate input pointers for touch coordinates, scrolling handlers, and button filters, the core virtualization engine hangs.Wiping DerivedData, clearing out iOS DeviceSupport caches, and running xcrun simctl erase all do not resolve the issue. Because the standalone legacy Simulator.app has been entirely removed from /Contents/Developer/Applications/, there is currently no way to bypass this bugged DeviceHub implementation natively. On an 8GB M1 machine, this bug completely thermal-throttles the hardware and paralyzes the local testing pipeline. Is anyone else hitting this linkage deadlock on version 27, or is there a known hidden defaults write flag to decouple input filtering from the CoreDevice workspace loop? Any assistance or temporary patches from the engineering team would be highly appreciated.

Xcode 27 crashes on keystroke — CoreML predictive completion (MLSymbolPopularity) EXC_BAD_ACCESS on macOS 27.2 beta 1
Environment: Xcode 27.0 (27A266a), Mac App Store macOS 27.2 beta 1 (26B5086k) MacBook Pro M3 Max, 48 GB (Mac15,9) Xcode crashes 100% of the time the moment I start typing a new variable inside a struct in the source editor. Building, running and debugging all work fine — the crash only happens on keystroke in the editor. Crash log points to CoreML predictive code completion: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS) on thread MLSymbolPopularity.workQueue -> Espresso::inner_product_kernel_cpu::get_biases() -> CodeCompletionModel.init -> MLSymbolPopularity.loadModelIfNeeded So the Espresso/CoreML runtime in macOS 27.2 beta 1 crashes while loading the predictive-completion model. Tried, none fixed it: "Display code predictions" -> Never "Display code completions while typing" -> Manually defaults write com.apple.dt.Xcode IDEPredictiveCodeCompletionEnabled -bool NO Cleared DerivedData / Xcode caches Installed the full 2.25 GB model via Settings > Components (still crashes) Not in the beta 1 "Known Issues". Filed: FB24823899 (Core ML, with two .ips crash logs + repro steps). Anyone else seeing MLSymbolPopularity here?

Xcode plaforms/simulators sucking up storage space.
With the limitations on not being to install larger hard drives on all Macs these days, the built-in drives tend to fill up very quickly. One of the fastest ways my drive space disappears is the installed platforms in Xcode. Every month or two I have to go in and free up 80GB by removing all the old versions of installed platforms. I would REALLY love a first-party supported way to a) store these installed platforms on an external drive (I could not get a symlink to work properly), or b) a setting to automatically remove older platforms in the same major revision when a newer one is installed. Both my Mac mini and MacBook Pro would love this, especially in the days of SSD scarcity that we are in now.

Xcode 27 How do we declare the accent color?
Hi guys In Xcode 27, we have to create the Assets Catalog file ourselves. This file is empty. The icon now is generated by Icon Composer, but how do you specify the accent color? I tried creating a Color set with the name AccentColor but didn't work. And look for options in the project settings but couldn't find any.

No AI model available in Xcode Settings → Intelligence
In Xcode's Settings → Intelligence section, there's no built-in AI agent/model available, only chat bots. I'm not able to download a model through the Components section as well, but no models are offered or downloadable there either. Environment: Xcode 26.6 and Xcode 27 beta 6 macOS 26.6.2 MacBook Pro (Apple M4 Pro)

Christian

What happened to adding a new project, it's broken
The new changes to Xcode for adding a project are ridiculously frustrating. I know exactly what directory I want to put my project in, and exactly what kind of project I need. Why in the world is the new user interface so primitive and incapable of allowing experienced developers to add a new project?
