Reply to Locked field in the W-8BEN tax form
An update on my situation: I opened a Finance Support case on September 24 about the W‑8BEN citizenship field being incorrectly locked to Poland. I’m an Israeli and Ukrainian citizen living and paying taxes in Poland. After 26 days without a resolution, I spoke with Apple Developer Support by phone on October 20. The advisor was very helpful and escalated the issue to Finance, noting a typical response time of 24 hours to 3 days. He also suggested changing my personal Apple Account region to Israel to see whether the citizenship field would update. Unfortunately, it didn’t—even after signing in through an incognito browser window (which proves the citizenship field in W‑8BEN comes not from your personal Apple Account). My Developer membership and citizenship remained in Poland, and the W‑8BEN field stayed locked. That experiment created another complication: in Israel, Apple TV is now bundled with iCloud+. Since I was subscribed to iCloud+, I couldn’t switch my account back to Poland because Apple reported an active Apple TV subscription, even though no separate Apple TV subscription appeared in my list. I had the same experience with Apple Music when I originally moved to Poland. Cancelling the subscription wasn’t enough: I had to wait until the subscription period ended before I could change my country. That experience is why I decided never to subscribe to Apple Music again. Now I’ve encountered the same restriction with Apple TV—even though I never requested or separately signed up for it. It was automatically included with iCloud+ when I changed my region to Israel, and it now prevents me from switching back to Poland. I cancelled my iCloud+ renewal, but it remains active until November 18, and the region change is still blocked. With approximately 803 GB of photos and files in iCloud, I’m now arranging a separate backup to protect against any risk of data loss after my paid storage expires—all following an attempt to correct one field. As of October 26, it has been 32 days since my original request and six days since the call. Developer Support has confirmed that Finance is investigating, but I still have no resolution. I sent another follow-up today and will update this thread if I hear anything. Sharing this particularly for anyone considering the Apple Account region workaround: it didn’t fix my W‑8BEN and introduced an unexpected obstacle to switching back. Has anyone here managed to get the citizenship field corrected?
